The Roles:

The Role

The Principal Planner – Resource Consents plays a leading role in providing technical leadership for the delivery of strategic planning projects and technical planning advice relating to the Resource Consenting function. They will lead practice, set standards and provide technical, strategic and professional guidance, skills, knowledge, advice and mentoring to the wider Resource Consent team.

This role will lead resource consent appeals/objections and reporting to elected members. The Principal Planner - Resource Consents will also lead input from the Resource Consent team on the District Plan Review and other Planning Policy matters.

The Principal Planner – Resource Consents will provide proven credibility and influence through strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. 

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in planning/resource management.
  • Either a full member or eligible to become a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute or a similar international counterpart organisation.
  • Extensive experience (15 + years) in a planning/resource management environment.
  • Extensive experience (10 + years) in a senior resource consenting role.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the planning and resource consenting process.
  • Environment Court/Environment Protection Agency (EPA) experience highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships across the stakeholder community.
  • Demonstrated strong political awareness.
