The Roles:

The Role

The Principal Planner – Urban Development plays a leading role in advising, coordinating and forming council policy on urban growth initiatives including assessing and planning major urban development proposals, managing Special Housing Area applications, development agreements, working with infrastructure providers and developers, monitoring development activity and housing capacity, leading the preparation of evidence for associated plan changes, notices of requirement applications and resource consents. The Principal Planner – Urban Development also takes the lead with structure planning, National Policy Statement Urban Development Capacity reporting and advising the Council and other parts of Council on urban planning policy matters and preparing planning housing and commercial and development strategies.

About You

  • Tertiary degree qualification in planning or related discipline.
  • Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or equivalent urban planning organisation.
  • Excellent knowledge and demonstrated practical application (5+ years) of the Resource Management Act 1991 and allied legislation.
  • Extensive experience in private practice and/or in a local or government agency environment dealing with urban planning and development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including formal evidence and report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to present topics to the public, professionals and meetings.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated, achievement-oriented and innovative professional.
