Recreation Programmes Coordinator

Queenstown Lakes District Council is at the very heart of the community, employing over 500 staff; we manage infrastructure development, community recreational facilities and planning, building and other regulatory services. With an annual operational budget of over $100m and a capital expenditure programme of $990m over ten years, we are a major part of the district’s economy.

The Role

We are seeking an outstanding candidate for the role of Recreation Programmes Coordinator who is ready to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment. This is a permanent, full-time position. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • The design, development, planning and delivery of holiday, recreation and community sport activities for the benefit and wellbeing of the Queenstown Lakes District community
  • Working with the Programmes Manager to increase community participation & financial performance in line with the strategic direction of the Programmes Unit

 To be considered, you should possess;

  • National Diploma L6 or a degree in an Education, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Education or other related field required.
  • A current NZQA affiliated First Aid Certificate.  Unit standards 26551 & 26552 (preferable).
  • 2-3 years’ experience in the supervision of staff and/or recreation activities required.
  • Child Protection training and experience highly desirable
  • 2-3 years’ experience working with programme development, including children’s programmes and community activities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to achieve targets and meet tight timeframes
  • Demonstrate planning and organisation skills, particularly when under pressure
  • Highly motivated, achievement – oriented and innovative professional
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Relates well to all kinds of people and has the ability to establish and build upon working relationships effectively.
  • Experience working with Work and Income New Zealand, including holding effective existing relationships, would be a distinct advantage.
